Dental Treatment of Eating Disorders

Those among us with eating disorders are often unhappy. If your problem is eating too much, we can help with a dental appliance that will slow down your eating until your body’s satisfaction with food can catch up with your appetite. Your body has time to enjoy the sensation of eating, digestion, and fullness (which usually lags 20+ minutes behind the actual food) before you have over-eaten. Working with your medical provider, we can help.

If your problem is anoxeria and/or bulimia, we will often find dental (tooth) changes from lack of saliva, acid erosion from regurgitation, acid erosion from acidic drinks (eg. diet sodas), and excessive wear from tooth grinding. In a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere, we can help you protect your teeth from lack of saliva, the effects of acids, and grinding. We offer support to help you keep your teeth healthy and whole, not criticism, judgment and invalidation. We want to be part of the answer and a safe part of your support team.
